Ed Barnett has more than 35 years experience in commercial real estate as a consultant, broker and account representative. He has an extensive background in all sides of a transaction through his representation of tenants, purchasers, landlords and sellers. His work is primarily focused in River West, West Loop, and River North markets. His perspective is that of the overview – successfully completing an assignment for the benefit of the client while recognizing the expectations of each party in the transaction. He provides expertise in all phases of the process – planning, marketing, negotiation, documentation review and closing.
Mr. Barnett received his BS in Business Administration from Drake University and has CCIM designation from the Commercial Investment Real Estate Institute. He served as a bank direct or for many years and as a member of municipal and county planning and zoning commissions.
Mr. Barnett is a top producer at Paine/Wetzel. Prior to joining the firm in 1981, he was one of three principals at a major downtown Chicago commercial real estate company and the lead broker in the 1,000,000 square foot successfully completed leasing assignment for Standard Oil (Indiana) when their 2,500,000 square foot headquarters was constructed in the Central Business District.
He represented Canadian Pacific Railway in the planning, subdivision and sale of the retail, office, industrial, and residential components for North Shore Corporate Park, a 280 acre multi-use development in Glenview, Illinois. Mr. Barnett completed a 170,000 square foot long-term office sublease in Lincolnshire for Fortune Brands, the corporate headquarters lease for Mead Johnson in Glenview, a 52,000 square foot office lease for Vertis in River North, and leased/sold many larger industrial properties in Wheeling, Northbrook, Morton Grove, Buffalo Grove and many other of Chicago’s north suburbs.
His real estate activity in Chicago’s greater downtown area, in addition to numerous office leases, includes the sale of properties at 575 W. Jackson Boulevard, 628 W. Jackson Boulevard, 168 N. Michigan Avenue, 220 N. Michigan Avenue and the south side of Roosevelt Road between Canal and Clinton Streets (a 570,000 square foot one-story building on a 16.5 acre site which was demolished and redeveloped as a shopping center), and recently, two adjoining buildings at 110 and 112 W. Hubbard Street in River North.
Denise originally began her career in 2004 as a salesperson and through her successes, has attained the Vice President level within the company.
Her territory extends from the south side of Chicago through Lake County, with specialization in northern Cook County including the Niles, Morton Grove, Lincolnwood and Skokie market. Currently, Denise represents owners of approximately 1,195,751 square feet, resulting in market knowledge of almost all current and pending transactions in the Northern Cook market, providing her clients with unique exposure to multiple prospective opportunities.
Since 2005, Denise has sold and leased over 4,500,000 square feet and has been involved in over $300,000,000 in transactions ranging from tenant representation to seller and investor representation.
Denise attained the prestigious level of “Five Hundred Thousand Square Foot Producer” for having leased or sold over 500,000 square feet of industrial property within the near north suburban corridor during a 12 month period. She has received commendations from the Newmark Knight Frank Epic’s Board of Directors for mentoring, and was responsible for publishing the Industrial Broker Training Manual for aspiring brokers at the firm.

Mr. Cummings joined PW Commercial Real Estate in October 2018. Prior to PW, Jim was Director at Newmark Knight Frank completing acquisitions, dispositions, relocations, build-to-suits and sale and lease negotiations involving industrial projects and vacant land in the south and west suburban communities of Chicago.
Jim is a graduate of Southern Illinois University where he earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Marketing. He is an Illinois licensed real estate broker and a member of the Will County Center for Economic Development, Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce and zoning committee member of the Bucktown Neighborhood Association.
Brandon Gates joined PW as an associate in September 2019 after interning with PW the previous summer. Prior to joining PW Brandon worked as a sales associate at a family-owned retail business. Brandon recently graduated from the University of Iowa where he earned a business administration degree specializing in sales and marketing. At Iowa, Brandon hosted an unprecedented philanthropic donating over $1,500 towards the children’s cancer research center. Brandons past sales experience has helped him gain skills in negotiation, time management, and problem-solving to meet clients’ needs.

Marc Hale joined Paine Wetzel as an Associate in February 2016. Prior to joining Paine Wetzel, Marc worked as a Licensed Attorney, as well as a Family Advisor/Consultant for CMG Sport.
During his time at Paine Wetzel, Marc has established himself as one of the top young brokers in the Chicagoland area. He has extensive experience working with clients in the food production/distribution, trucking, scrap metal, and warehousing industries.
Marc’s experience is in the industrial brokerage field in and around the City of Chicago, I-55, Southwestern Suburbs, Will County and Northwest Indiana submarkets. Marc’s legal background provides him with a fundamental understanding of real estate law, contract law, worker’s compensation law, criminal, and civil litigation. Hiloh Izumo is currently Vice President with Paine/Wetzel. Joining the firm, Mr. Izumo specializes in the leasing and purchase of commercial/industrial properties. He has sold properties throughout the Midwest, but concentrates most of his time and energies in Chicago and the Chicago suburban market. Mr. Izumo’s experience includes the leasing of speculative facilities and the purchase of vacant land.
He began his business career in Japan at an export/import trading company. In 1990 he started his real estate career at Baird & Warner by concentrating in the Chicago and Chicago suburban markets and has worked with many tenants in the leasing and purchasing of office/industrial properties.

Laura Perlman joined PW as an Associate in May of 2019. Prior to earning her Illinois Real Estate Brokers License in 2018, Laura worked in various Sales, Marketing, and Operations roles focusing mainly in companies in their initial start-up or expansion phases.
From 2000 to 2011, Laura was deeply rooted within the Residential Real Estate Community as the Sales Associate for Home Warranty of America, and also serving as an Affiliate Director with several local REALTOR Associations. Her interest in Commercial/Industrial Real Estate grew in 2011, when she had the opportunity to work for Cinespace Chicago Film Studios, where 1.5 million square feet of the former Ryerson Steel Plant on Chicago’s South West Side was transformed to television and film studios, bringing a thriving industry back into a community that was once the heartbeat of Chicago steel. Phil Reiff Sr. began his real estate career in 1979 as an office broker in Oak Brook, Illinois. Over the past 38 years he has held positions in brokerage, brokerage management, national marketing and real estate acquisition. Participating in a variety of real estate transactions, he has been involved with the sale or lease of over 20 million square feet of space. Major transactions include deals with General Motors, Xerox Corporation, DynCorp, Bucyrus International, Proctor and Gamble, Honeywell, YKK America, Wal-Mart, Pabst Brewing, Tyco and American Standard.
Phil Sr. now concentrates the majority of his efforts working the O’Hare market area with his son Phil. Areas of expertise include project marketing and leasing, investment sales, transaction analysis, and tenant representation.

Albert Schulman, CCIM, specializes in the sale and leasing of office, industrial, commercial, investment, and vacant properties in the metropolitan area of Chicago. He has been actively engaged in the real estate brokerage business since 1965. After 30 years with The Rubloff Company, he joined Paine/Wetzel Associates. In addition to attending Northwestern University, he has taken appraisal, construction, and related real estate courses.
Al was one of the ten charter members of the Illinois Chapter of the Certified Commercial Investment Member (CCIM) and served as President of the Illinois Chapter in 1978. He was also President of the Salesman Club of the Chicago Board of Realtors, Chairman of the Commercial Investment Committee of the North Side Real Estate Board, and President of the Association of Industrial Real Estate Brokers (AIRE), the largest Industrial Association in Illinois and was giving an honorary award in 2011.

Sean Sloan joined Paine Wetzel’s Global Services team in March 2016. As a member of Global Services, Sean works to provide real estate brokerage and consulting services to corporate clients on a global platform in all regions including North America, South America, Europe and Asia.
Sean provides the Global Services Team with a unique background in finance and law. Sean began his career in investment banking and municipal bond underwriting where he helped municipal entities issue bonds with proceeds frequently used for infrastructure and development projects. As an attorney, Sean spent several years in commercial litigation representing individual and corporate clients in financial and commercial disputes, often involving real estate matters.
